| In The Beginning |
Grove House began as a dream in 1986. A small group of individuals joined together to plan a residential group home for young adults with developmental disabilities. Our goal was to provide these very deserving individuals with a safe and secure home and help them to function in their community as independently as their abilities permitted. We were aware that there was only a handful of group homes in our community and that the wait to get into one was often unbelievably long. Our efforts were finally realized in 1993 as hard work led to necessary funding, required licensing and a functioning program. |
| The Agency |
Upon opening the group home, Grove House quickly realized there were many more adults with disabilities in our community in need of assistance. In just a few years Grove House responded by developing new and innovative programs to address these needs. Grove House has grown into a thriving agency with four very successful, cost effective programs serving over 150 people with disabilities. Grove House Supportive Services is now one of the largest providers of supported living services for adults with developmental disabilities in Jacksonville. We are also the major provider of supported living services for adults with acquired disabilities in Jacksonville and we have one of the fastest growing and most innovative supported employment programs in Jacksonville. We are proud that we are helping our participants acquire more suitable housing, become active and productive community members, increase their independence and enjoy an improved quality of life. We are also proud that most of our participants are working, tax-paying citizens. We take further pride in the fact that, with modest grant funding, we are able to provide services to a limited number of people without traditional funding sources. Yet, Grove House still has to turn away requests for assistance. We are always in need of additional funds to assist more adults with disabilities who need our help in order to live quality lives in our community. |
